Laylat al-Qadr: the Night of Power
"The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months. The angels and the Spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord" (97:3-4). The Qur'an was first revealed on this night.
When is it?
The Prophet ﷺ said: "Seek it in the odd nights of the last ten nights of Ramadan" (Bukhari). Many look especially to the 27th night. In 2027 the last ten nights are expected to start on the evening of February 27, and the 27th night on the evening of March 5.
The best dua
Aisha asked what to say if she found the night. He ﷺ said: "Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun tuhibbul-'afwa fa'fu 'anni" (Laylatul Qadr Dua (Allahumma Innaka Afuwwun Karim Dua)).
How to spend it
- Pray Isha and Fajr in congregation.
- Stand in night prayer and recite the Qur'an.
- Make dua, dhikr and istighfar.
- Give charity in each of the last ten nights, so you do not miss it.

Is Laylat al-Qadr always on the 27th?
No one knows for certain. It is in the last ten nights, most likely an odd one. The 27th is a strong opinion, so seek it on all ten.
