What is the nisab for zakat?
The nisab is the value of 85 g of gold or 595 g of silver. Many scholars recommend the silver nisab because it is lower and benefits more of the poor; others use gold. Some authorities use slightly different weights.
How much zakat do I pay?
2.5% (one fortieth) of your zakatable wealth, if it stays at or above the nisab for a full lunar year.
Is zakat due on my house and car?
No. Zakat is not due on the home you live in, your car, furniture or clothing for personal use. It is due on cash, gold and silver, investments, business stock and money owed to you.
