The six articles of faith
Faith (iman) rests on six beliefs.
The six articles of faith
When Jibril asked about faith, the Prophet ﷺ listed these six (Muslim). "Amantu" sums them up.
1. Belief in Allah
Believing that Allah exists and is One, without partner or likeness, with every perfect attribute and free of every imperfection.
2. Belief in the angels
Believing in the angels Allah created from light, who never disobey Him. Jibril, Mika'il, Israfil and the Angel of Death are among the greatest.
3. Belief in the books
Believing that Allah sent down books to prophets: the Torah (Musa), the Psalms (Dawud), the Gospel (Isa) and the final book, the Qur'an (Muhammad ﷺ).
4. Belief in the prophets
Believing that Allah sent prophets to guide people. The first is Adam and the last is Muhammad ﷺ; no prophet will come after him.
5. Belief in the Last Day
Believing in resurrection after death, the reckoning, Paradise and Hell. This life is a test, and every deed will be repaid.
6. Belief in divine decree
Believing that good and evil happen by Allah's knowledge, will and creation, while each person is responsible for their choices.
