Qibla in Brooklyn: questions
What is the Qibla direction in Brooklyn?
The Qibla in Brooklyn is 58.5° from true north, roughly ENE. Face that bearing to face the Kaaba in Makkah.
How far is Brooklyn from Makkah?
About 10,304 km (6,403 miles) along the shortest path on the globe.
Why does the Qibla from Brooklyn point ENE and not toward Makkah on a flat map?
The Qibla follows the shortest path over the curved Earth (a great circle). On a flat map that path looks bent, so the direction can look surprising, especially from North America.
Does my phone compass show true north?
Many compass apps show magnetic north, which can be several degrees off. The Mood & Dua compass corrects for this and shows when its accuracy is low.
