Qibla in Minneapolis: questions
What is the Qibla direction in Minneapolis?
The Qibla in Minneapolis is 43.8° from true north, roughly NE. Face that bearing to face the Kaaba in Makkah.
How far is Minneapolis from Makkah?
About 11,236 km (6,982 miles) along the shortest path on the globe.
Why does the Qibla from Minneapolis point NE and not toward Makkah on a flat map?
The Qibla follows the shortest path over the curved Earth (a great circle). On a flat map that path looks bent, so the direction can look surprising, especially from North America.
Does my phone compass show true north?
Many compass apps show magnetic north, which can be several degrees off. The Mood & Dua compass corrects for this and shows when its accuracy is low.
