Qibla in Phoenix: questions
What is the Qibla direction in Phoenix?
The Qibla in Phoenix is 30.1° from true north, roughly NNE. Face that bearing to face the Kaaba in Makkah.
How far is Phoenix from Makkah?
About 13,225 km (8,218 miles) along the shortest path on the globe.
Why does the Qibla from Phoenix point NNE and not toward Makkah on a flat map?
The Qibla follows the shortest path over the curved Earth (a great circle). On a flat map that path looks bent, so the direction can look surprising, especially from North America.
Does my phone compass show true north?
Many compass apps show magnetic north, which can be several degrees off. The Mood & Dua compass corrects for this and shows when its accuracy is low.
